Teachers: Matthew Courtney and Jackie White
Details: This class engages teens while introducing them to the joys and fundamentals of clay hand building. We provide clay, colors, and tutorials to watch on your own schedule. You make the projects and, if you want, can attend weekly course Zoom meet-ups and presentations with our instructors. Among other ceramic projects, students will make a lidded decorative container, sculpted animals, boxes and jars.
Structure: On our first Zoom on Monday, join us for the introductory online meet-up and presentation. After each meet-up we'll release a video tutorial project for students to complete by the following week. The final Zoom will be a celebration and exhibition of student work from throughout the course. There are five 1-hour Zoom meet-ups and four 30-45 minute tutorial videos.
Materials: Prior to the class, students will receive a time to pick up prepackaged clay and underglaze from the art center - social distancing will be required. At the end of the course, students will bring their unfired pieces to the art center, where we will fire them with clear glaze. We will use low-fire clay and underglazes. Tools will be those that students can find at home such as a sponge, pencil, plastic knife, fork and spoon, a paint brush and a chopstick.
Course Price: Course price includes clay, glaze, firing costs, five Zoom meetings, and four video tutorials.
Class Size and Students: Ten students max.
Date note: This course previously started a week earlier.
