Our adult classes are ideal for both the beginning and the experienced artist alike. These unique courses focus on the fundamentals and on building existing skills and allow each student to explore their own creativity at their own pace.

Painting with Purpose



Online | 6 weeks | Thursdays, 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM | March 11th - April 15th



Teacher: Stefanie Lieberman


Details: This six-week course is designed to create 3 paintings that we will build from a loose, underpainting and refine as we go along. This class is ideal for those painters who want to break out of the habit of focusing in on details and let the paint create a more expressive piece. Attention will be paid to composition, color mixing, paint application and technique. All skill levels welcome in a fun and relaxing atmosphere!


Materials: Students provide their own materials of either oil or acrylic paint. A detailed supply list of colors will be sent to all who enroll.


Class Size: Ten students max. Students of all skill levels are welcome.

Painting with Purpose


Expressions in Paint

Details: In this six-week course, we will be painting small, loose paintings of varied subject matter comprised from images that students submit. Learn how to break down an image to its most important aspects and not getting tied up in detail from the start. Composition, color mixing and painting technique will be addressed in a fun and relaxing painting experience! All skill levels welcome.

Expressions in Paint


New! Design Your Own Chess Set Ceramics



Online | 3 weeks | Mondays, 7 - 8 PM. Zooms followed by video tutorial releases | March 15 - March 29



Teachers: Matthew Courtney


Details: This course teaches beginners and advanced students alike to hand build all elements of a chess set. Through a range of sculpture techniques from various influences, the teacher will inspire students to make their own unique stylized chess pieces and board.


Structure: We will meet three times by Zoom. After the first two live Zooms, we'll release video tutorial projects for students to do on their own schedules. The last Zoom is an opportunity to ask the instructor remaining questions and is a celebration of students' finished chess sets.


Materials: The price of the course covers the cost of clay, underglazes, and kiln firing at the art center. Projects can be completed with tools commonly found at home such as a sponge, pencil, plastic knife, fork and spoon, a paint brush and a chop stick. However, the instructor will also give students links to where they can buy specialized tools, if desired.


Class Size: Ten students max.


Ages: This is an adult class. With special permission by the instructor, older teens may register.




Make your own Chess Set Ceramics


New! Making Faces Hand Building



Online | 3 weeks | Saturdays, 2 - 3 PM. Zooms followed by hour-long video tutorial releases | March 13th, 20th, and April 3rd.



Teachers: Jeanine Pennell


Details: This course teaches beginners and advanced students alike to create faces with clay. The instructor will break down facial features into sections and give students simple instructions to effectively create a unique face with hand building techniques. Further, students will learn how to finish a clay character's body and make a face flowerpot head.


Structure: We will meet on three Saturday afternoons by Zoom. After the first two live instruction Saturdays, we'll release live video tutorial projects for students to do on their own schedules. The last Zoom is an opportunity to ask the instructor remaining questions and is a celebration of students' finished pieces. With the three Zooms and two video tutorial releases, there are five total hours of instruction. Note: There it no class on March 27th.


Materials: The price of the course covers the cost of specialized paper clay, underglaze colors, and kiln firing at the art center. Projects can be completed with tools commonly found at home such as a sponge, pencil, plastic knife, fork and spoon, a paint brush and a chop stick. However, the instructor will also give students links to where they can buy specialized tools, if desired. If a student is not regional and will be paying for his/her own materials and kiln firing, there is a discounted price below.

Making Faces Hand Building


Sculptural and Functional Ceramic Hand Building



Online | 8 weeks | Tuesdays, 7:30 - 8:30 PM. Zooms followed by weekly hour-long video tutorial releases | March 23rd - May 11th



Teachers: Charlotte Lindley Martin and Matthew Courtney


Details: In this engaging course, students will learn to make functional and sculptural pots. The class will present 8 projects easily created at the kitchen table. Students will explore hand-building techniques using templates, slabs, coiling and pinching followed by underglaze and sgraffito decoration.​


Structure: Prior to class, we'll release the first of eight 45-60 minute video tutorials with alternating examples from both talented instructors. Students can watch tutorials on their own schedules. Each Tuesday at 7:30 PM, starting March 23rd, the teachers will alternate leading online live 1-hour Q&As and presentations with students.


Materials: Registered students will receive a time to pick up prepackaged clay and underglaze from the art center - social distancing will be required. At the end of the course, students will bring their unfired pieces to the art center, where we will fire them with clear glaze. The course price includes clay, glaze, and firing costs. Separately, students will need to purchase tools in advance of the class. We'll provide registered students with a detailed list of specialized hand-building tools that can be purchased through the Ceramic Shop in Norristown or on Amazon.


Class Size: Ten students max. If one course fills, we’ll offer a second Q&A class on a different weekday.

Sculptural & Functional Ceramics


Advanced Ceramic Hand Building



Online | 8 weeks |Thursdays, 6 PM - 8 PM | Mar. 18 - May 6



Teacher: Charlotte Lindley Martin


Details: Take your hand building skills to the next level. In this hands-on Zoom class, together we will make a series of more complicated forms using slabs and darting. Specific attention will be given to surface decoration using texture, slip trailing and colored underglazes.


Format: Online with Zoom. Live instruction.


Prerequisite: Previous ceramic hand building course.


Materials: In this advanced class, students will use a white stoneware clay that's similar to porcelain. Prior to the class, students will receive a time to pick up prepackaged clay and underglaze from the art center - social distancing will be required. At the end of the course, students will bring their unfired pieces to the art center, where we will fire them with clear glaze. The course price includes clay, glaze, and firing costs. Separately, students will need to purchase tools in advance of the class. We'll provide registered students with a detailed list of specialized handbuilding tools that can be purchased through the Ceramic Shop in Norristown or on Amazon.


Class Size: Ten students max.

Advanced Ceramic Hand Building


Senior Center Ceramics



Online | 5 weeks | Hour-long Zooms followed by weekly video tutorial releases | Spring 2021 | Contact us to schedule times that work with your senior center

Details: We partner with regional senior centers to offer this online course. In this engaging class, we introduce seniors to the joys and fundamentals of clay hand building through Zoom. We provide clay, colors, and video tutorials for seniors to watch on their own schedule.


Structure: On our first Zoom, join us for the introductory online meet-up and techniques presentation where students will learn skills for each project. After each meet-up we'll release a video tutorial project for students to complete by the following week. The final Zoom will be a celebration and exhibition of student work from throughout the course. There are five 1-hour Zoom meet-ups and four 30-45 minute tutorial videos.


Materials: Prior to the class, we'll coordinate a time to drop off materials at the senior center. At the end of the course, we'll pick up students' unfired pieces and bring them to the art center, where we will fire them with clear glaze. We will use low-fire clay and underglazes. Tools will be those that students can find at home such as a sponge, pencil, plastic knife, fork and spoon, a paint brush and a chopstick.


Course Price: Course price includes clay, glaze, firing costs, five Zoom meetings, and four video tutorials.


Class Size: Ten students max per each Zoom.

Senior Ceramics


Family Ceramics, I : Parent and Child (Elementary Age)



Online | 5 weeks | Tuesdays, 5:30 - 6:15 PM via Zoom followed by weekly 45 minute video tutorial releases | March 16th - April 13th

Note: Older elementary students might be advanced enough to independently complete projects without parent supervision.


Details: This class engages parents and kids while introducing both to the joys and fundamentals of clay hand building. We provide clay, colors, and tutorials for you to watch on your own schedule. You make the projects and attend weekly course Zoom meet-ups and presentations with our instructors. Projects will include making animals, jars, boxes, and more.


Structure: During our first Zoom, join the teacher and your peers for an introductory meet-up and presentation. After each meet-up we'll release a video tutorial project for students to complete by the following week. The final Zoom meet-up will be a celebration when we show student work from throughout the course. There are five 45-minute Zoom meet-ups and four 30-45 minute tutorial videos.


Materials: Prior to the class, students will receive a time to pick up prepackaged clay and underglaze from the art center - social distancing will be required. At the end of the course, students will bring their unfired pieces to the art center, where we will fire them with clear glaze. The course price includes clay, glaze, and firing costs. Parent & Child I Ceramics


Teen Ceramic Hand Building



Online | 5 weeks | Mondays, 5:30 - 6:30 PM Zooms followed by weekly project video tutorial releases | March 15th - April 12th

Details: This class engages teens while introducing them to the joys and fundamentals of clay hand building. We provide clay, colors, and tutorials to watch on your own schedule. You make the projects and, if you want, can attend weekly course Zoom meet-ups and presentations with our instructors. Among other ceramic projects, students will make a lidded decorative container, sculpted animals, boxes and jars.


Structure: On our first Zoom on Monday, join us for the introductory online meet-up and presentation. After each meet-up we'll release a video tutorial project for students to complete by the following week. The final Zoom will be a celebration and exhibition of student work from throughout the course. There are five 1-hour Zoom meet-ups and four 30-45 minute tutorial videos.​

Teen Ceramics


Oil and Acrylic Painting Techniques
