Teacher: Charlotte Lindley Martin
Details: In this course, students will explore handbuilding techniques using paper clay. Many of the rules that govern regular clay do not apply to paper clay. We will be using slabs and darting to create functional pottery and sculptural forms. All of these techniques are employable using non-paper clay. Surface decoration using mason stain engobes as well as glaze application will be taught. A new project will be demonstrated each week to build students’ skill sets. Intermediate and advanced students may work on independent projects.
Materials: Porcelain Paper Clay or Laguna 65 clay (with or without fiber). For Porcelain Paper Clay there will be an additional charge of $25 (includes Standard 365 porcelain, cotton and abaca fibers, and teacher assistance to make the clay).
Course Price: Includes Laguna 65 paper clay (extra charge), it does not include the Porcelain Paper Clay - see below for extra charge, glaze, firing costs, and six 2.5-hour class dates.
